Biography & Academic Journey

The Journey Behind the Work

Professor Chris Chinwe Ulasi has devoted his professional life to the study and practice of communication, media, education, and storytelling.

He earned his B.S. in Telecommunications and M.A. in Mass Communication from Texas Southern University before earning his Ph.D. in International Communications from The University of Texas at Austin in 1989.

His academic career has been closely connected to Texas Southern University, where he has served as a professor, department chair, interim dean, researcher, and mentor to generations of students.

His work extends beyond the university. Through filmmaking, poetry, cultural leadership, research, and community engagement, he has explored questions of identity, communication, culture, technology, politics, and the African diaspora.
